All Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance Announces Indefinite Strike

ISLAMABAD:** The All Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance has announced an indefinite strike starting today, August 8, in protest against rising fuel prices and taxes imposed on the transport sector.

Speaking to the media, All Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance President Malik Shehzad Awan confirmed the indefinite strike and said the federal government has invited the transport alliance for a meeting on Monday.

He said a committee has been formed to represent the transport alliance in talks with the government. The strike will continue until the meeting concludes and the alliance announces its future course of action.

Malik Shehzad Awan said negotiations between the goods transport alliance and the authorities at the commissioner’s office had previously failed.

The transporters are protesting against increases in petrol and diesel prices, the daily determination of petroleum product prices and the imposition of a 7% withholding tax on the transport sector.
