Balochistan Lawmaker Levels Serious Allegations in Assembly Over Asma Jatak’s Father’s Killing
QUETTA: Balochistan Assembly member Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman Baloch delivered a strongly worded speech in the provincial assembly over the killing of Asma Jatak’s father, calling for the resignation of the provincial home minister and the removal of senior police officials while making serious allegations against Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Nawab Sanaullah Zehri.
During the assembly session, Hidayat-ur-Rehman questioned what he described as the influence of powerful individuals and asked why their names were not being openly mentioned. He alleged that Nawab Sanaullah Zehri was responsible for the situation and claimed that those involved in the killing were being sheltered. These allegations have not been substantiated in court, and no official findings have confirmed them.
The lawmaker also alleged that Asma Jatak’s maternal uncle had previously been killed and held Zehri responsible. He questioned whether the killing of Asma Jatak’s father had been carried out by members of the banned militant groups BLA or TTP.
Criticizing the performance of law enforcement authorities, Hidayat-ur-Rehman demanded the immediate dismissal of the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Khuzdar, and called on the Balochistan Home Minister to resign.
He argued that merely summoning the Inspector General of Police would not resolve the issue and challenged government members to refute his claims if they believed them to be incorrect.
In a forceful conclusion to his speech, the lawmaker warned that if the authorities remained unable to deliver justice, he was prepared to take up arms himself. The remark was made during his address in the assembly.
Authorities have not publicly responded to the allegations made in the speech, and investigations into the killing of Asma Jatak’s father are ongoing.
