Iraq Orders Legal Action Against U.S. and Saudi Arabia Over Joint Airstrikes
Baghdad:Iraq’s National Security Council has directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to initiate legal action against the United States and Saudi Arabia over the joint overnight airstrikes carried out on Iraqi territory.
According to a statement issued by the Iraqi Prime Minister’s Office, the Foreign Ministry has been instructed to pursue legal measures in accordance with international law and the United Nations Charter, document the incident, and safeguard Iraq’s legitimate rights.
In a statement posted on X, the National Security Council reaffirmed the government’s firm position that all hostile actions, regardless of the party responsible or the justification offered, are unacceptable.
The council also stressed that responding to and addressing such acts of aggression is solely the responsibility of the Iraqi government and its constitutional institutions.
The development follows joint U.S. and Saudi military strikes launched after attacks originating from Iraq targeted Saudi Arabia. Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) claimed that the strikes killed 20 of its personnel and wounded 32 others.
Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the operation was conducted jointly by American and Saudi forces in coordination with the Iraqi government.
