Aslam Raisani Announces Legal Challenge Against Abolition of Kalat Division and Merger of Mastung into Quetta

QUETTA: Former Balochistan Chief Minister Nawab Muhammad Aslam Khan Raisani has announced legal action against the government’s decision to abolish Kalat Division and merge Mastung into Quetta Division, describing the move as a “dangerous conspiracy” against Balochistan’s history and identity.

The decision was made during a meeting of a legal team chaired by Raisani at Sarawan House. The meeting was attended by senior lawyers and legal experts, including Riaz Ahmed Advocate, Ateeq Ahmed Khan Advocate, Ghulam Rasool Lehri Advocate, Mohiuddin Khan Kakar Advocate, and legal scholar Qazi Hameed Advocate.

During the meeting, participants discussed various legal options and strategies to challenge the government’s decision in court.

Addressing the meeting, Raisani alleged that the move was driven by bad faith and was against the interests of the people of Balochistan. He argued that Mastung has historically, culturally, politically, geographically, and nationally been an integral part of Kalat, and that there was neither legal authority nor justification for altering its status.

He further stated that Kalat has a centuries-old historical identity and claimed that abolishing the division was part of a broader plan that threatened the province’s heritage.

Raisani also accused the current government of disregarding Balochistan’s historical legacy, traditions, language, culture, and geography. He warned that such decisions, taken against public sentiment, could further increase public dissatisfaction in a province already facing governance challenges.

The meeting concluded with a unanimous decision to pursue legal remedies at every available forum. The legal team said it would finalize a petition challenging the merger of Mastung into Quetta Division and file the case before the relevant court in the coming days.
