Hafiz Naeem Ur Rehman Criticizes Daily Petroleum Pricing Plan, Calls It a Burden on the Public
LAHORE: Jamaat-e-Islami Emir Hafiz Naeem Ur Rehman has strongly criticized the federal government’s decision to introduce a daily pricing mechanism for petroleum products, saying the move would place an additional financial burden on the public.
In a statement posted on the social media platform X, Hafiz Naeem Ur Rehman said that determining petroleum prices on a daily basis effectively means the government has decided to impose what he described as “daily exploitation” of consumers.
He questioned why the coalition government was increasing fuel prices instead of abolishing what he claimed were Rs. 120 per litre in taxes imposed on petroleum products, arguing that these taxes were unrelated to the actual price of fuel.
The Jamaat-e-Islami chief also criticized the petroleum levy, describing it as an unfair burden on consumers, and urged the government to eliminate it.
Hafiz Naeem Ur Rehman further alleged that the government was shifting the consequences of its economic failures onto the public by continuing to raise fuel-related charges.
The federal government has maintained that the proposed daily pricing mechanism is intended to align domestic fuel prices with international market trends as part of broader reforms in the petroleum sector.
