Islamabad: With the arrival of the monsoon season, the risk of colds, sore throats, indigestion, and seasonal infections increases, making warm beverages such as masala tea, ginger tea, and kahwa popular choices. Nutrition experts say each drink offers unique health benefits, and the best option depends on an individual’s symptoms and needs.

Masala tea, prepared with black tea, milk, and spices such as cardamom, fennel, cinnamon, and cloves, may help keep the body warm, improve digestion, and support the immune system. It also contains antioxidants that may help reduce the risk of seasonal illnesses. However, because it contains caffeine, experts recommend consuming it in moderation and limiting added sugar.

Ginger tea contains fresh ginger, which is rich in the natural compound gingerol. According to experts, it may help improve digestion, reduce nausea, ease inflammation, and soothe a sore throat. It may also provide relief from symptoms of colds, bloating, indigestion, and mild respiratory discomfort.

Kahwa, traditionally prepared with ingredients such as ginger, cinnamon, black pepper, cloves, and sometimes licorice root, is also rich in antioxidants. Experts say it may help soothe a sore throat, support the immune system, and promote respiratory health. However, they emphasize that kahwa is not a cure for infections but may help relieve certain symptoms.
