Pakistan Raises Petrol Levy by Rs15.86 Per Litre in One Week

The federal government has increased the petroleum levy on petrol by Rs15.86 per litre within a single week, significantly boosting fuel taxes without reducing the retail price.
According to official figures, if the government had not raised the petroleum levy, the current price of petrol would have been Rs294.85 per litre instead of the existing Rs310.71 per litre.
The petroleum levy stood at Rs64.14 per litre until July 3. Effective July 4, the government increased the levy by Rs6.22 per litre, followed by another hike of Rs9.64 per litre from July 11.
Following the two increases, the petroleum levy on petrol has reached Rs80 per litre, while the official retail price of petrol remains fixed at Rs310.71 per litre.
