Consumers Struggle to Find LPG at Official Prices Despite Government Price Cut

KARACHI: Despite the government’s recent announcement of a significant reduction in liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices, consumers across Pakistan say they are unable to purchase the fuel at the officially notified rates.

The government reduced the official LPG price by Rs67.33 per kilogram for the new fiscal year, bringing the notified price down to Rs241.33 per kilogram. However, consumers claim that the revised rates are not being implemented in the retail market.

In Karachi, LPG is reportedly being sold for Rs360 to Rs380 per kilogram, well above the official price. In Lahore, retail prices are even higher, ranging between Rs460 and Rs480 per kilogram, according to market reports.

The gap between the official and market prices has sparked frustration among consumers, many of whom say they have been unable to locate any LPG outlets selling the product at the government-approved rate.

Residents are now questioning where LPG is actually available at the official price and are calling on the authorities to ensure effective enforcement of the notified rates so that consumers can benefit from the announced price reduction.
