Pakistan Captain Apologises After Disappointing FIH Pro League Campaign, Calls for Urgent Reforms

Pakistan men’s hockey team captain Imad Shakeel Butt has apologised to the nation following the team’s disappointing FIH Pro League campaign, which ended with another defeat to England in their final match.

In a detailed message shared on social media, Butt expressed regret over the team’s poor results and thanked fans for their continued support, especially those who have stood by the players despite the setbacks.

“As a player, it is never easy to go to sleep carrying the weight of defeat,” he wrote, adding that the team had given its best with the resources available. He stressed that champions are developed through proper planning and investment rather than born overnight.

The Pakistan captain urged both the Pakistan Hockey Federation and the government to play a more active role in improving the sport. He said that if Pakistan hopes to compete with the world’s top teams, players must be provided with better facilities, long-term planning, and professional training programs.

Butt acknowledged that he had faced the most criticism but vowed not to stop raising his voice for the welfare of the players. He noted that while people often focus only on match results, they overlook the structured development systems and long-term preparation that successful international teams enjoy.

He concluded by saying that Pakistan’s players are often left waiting for training camps to be announced shortly before major tournaments, stressing that his comments were not complaints but a call for meaningful reforms to revive hockey in the country.
