BAP Lawmaker Says Financial Hardships Are Driving Makran Youth Toward Militancy, Calls for Systemic Reforms

Quetta: Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) lawmaker Farah Azeem Shah has called for reforms to address the economic challenges facing young people in the province, stating that financial hardships are pushing some youth in the Makran region toward militancy.

Speaking during the budget debate in the Balochistan Assembly, Shah congratulated Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, the finance minister, the Planning and Development (P&D) minister, and their teams for presenting what she described as a positive budget.

She welcomed several welfare-oriented measures, including interest-free loan schemes and the announcement of vacancies in government departments. However, she stressed that effective implementation and proper utilization of budget allocations were equally important.

Farah Azeem Shah said that many young people in Balochistan are facing severe financial difficulties and emphasized the need for reforms within the system to create greater economic opportunities and address underlying social issues.

She also highlighted concerns regarding women’s participation in development projects, stating that women are often not given an adequate share in development schemes.

Referring to regional diplomacy, Shah expressed hope that just as the Prime Minister and the Field Marshal had helped facilitate peace efforts between Iran and the United States, they would also work toward resolving the challenges facing Balochistan.

Her remarks came during the ongoing debate on the provincial budget for the fiscal year 2026-27 in the Balochistan Assembly.
