Muharram Crescent Not Sighted in Pakistan, 1st Muharram to Begin on June 17: Ruet-e-Hilal Committee

Lahore (News Desk) The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee has officially announced that the Muharram-ul-Haram crescent was not sighted anywhere in the country, and therefore the first day of Muharram will fall on June 17 (Wednesday).

The announcement was made following a meeting of the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee held at Badshahi Mosque, Lahore, under the chairmanship of Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad.

The meeting was attended by committee members along with representatives of the Meteorological Department and SUPARCO for technical assistance. Zonal Ruet-e-Hilal Committee meetings were also held in Karachi, Quetta, Peshawar, Islamabad, and other cities.

Speaking to the media, Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad stated that no credible testimonies regarding the sighting of the Muharram crescent were received from anywhere in the country. He confirmed that it was decided that 1st Muharram will be observed on June 17, while Ashura (10th Muharram) will fall on June 26.

Authorities later issued formal confirmation of the Islamic calendar dates following the committee’s announcement.
