Pakistan Brought US and Iran to Negotiating Table, Israel Wanted Conflict to Continue: Khawaja Asif

Islamabad (Kudrat Daily) — Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has said that Pakistan played a role in bringing the United States and Iran to the negotiating table to ensure that dialogue between the two sides remained intact, adding that Israel wanted the conflict to continue.

Talking to Geo News, the defence minister said that, God willing, a possible agreement between the US and Iran could be finalized within a day or two. He added that Pakistan facilitated engagement between both sides so that diplomatic communication would not break down.

Khawaja Asif said Israel repeatedly played a negative and destructive role in the regional conflict, adding that Israel’s objective was to keep tensions ongoing and to keep the United States engaged in the region.

He further stated that Israel’s actions in Lebanon had resulted in the killing of innocent children and civilians, and reiterated that Israel wanted the conflict to persist.

Commenting on the United States, he said the American administration demonstrated wisdom and acted in line with what is expected from global leadership.

Regarding Iran, the defence minister said that Iranians have a long historical legacy and showed courage and patriotism in defending their country. He added that both sides demonstrated restraint and wisdom during the recent tensions.
