Triptii Dimri says audiences want to see flawed female characters on screen

Mumbai: Bollywood actress Triptii Dimri has said that modern audiences prefer to watch female characters with flaws because perfection does not reflect real life.
Known for portraying unconventional roles in films such as Laila Majnu, Bulbbul, and the blockbuster Animal, Triptii said she has consistently chosen characters that differ from traditional heroine portrayals.
The actress is now set to appear in her upcoming film Maa Behen, where she once again plays a non-traditional role.
In a recent interview, when asked whether audiences today enjoy watching imperfect characters, Triptii agreed and said people want to see characters who possess ordinary human flaws.
“Yes, audiences like characters with imperfections because no one is perfect in real life—not me, nor my co-star Madhuri Dixit. When you see flawed characters on screen, they feel relatable,” she said.
Discussing the traditional portrayal of women in films, Triptii noted that movies often depict mothers making endless sacrifices for their children, such as refusing to eat if their children have not eaten.
“Maybe such situations exist somewhere, but they are not the norm. Real life is much more complex than that,” she remarked.
Speaking about Maa Behen, Triptii said viewers would likely see reflections of themselves in the film’s characters—Rekha, Jaya, and Sushma—because they live their lives freely and authentically without fear or hesitation.
The actress emphasized that realistic and relatable portrayals are increasingly resonating with audiences, who are seeking characters that mirror the complexities of everyday life.
