Surge in Stomach-Related Illnesses Fills Karachi Hospitals During Eid Holidays

KARACHI: Hospitals across Karachi witnessed a significant influx of patients suffering from digestive problems during the three days of Eid-ul-Azha, with health experts attributing the trend largely to excessive meat consumption.

Patients experiencing vomiting, diarrhea, indigestion, and abdominal pain were seen arriving in large numbers at government hospitals throughout the holiday period.

According to Dr. Imran, Emergency In-Charge at Civil Hospital Karachi, more than 100 patients visited the hospital on the second day of Eid with complaints of vomiting and stomach pain. A similar number of patients suffering from gastrointestinal illnesses were treated on the third day of Eid.

Meanwhile, Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre also reported a rise in cases, with more than 50 patients seeking treatment for stomach-related ailments on the first day of Eid.

Emergency official Irfan Siddiqui said that excessive meat consumption, inadequate water intake, and unbalanced diets contributed to the increase in digestive health problems, including vomiting, diarrhea, and indigestion.

Medical experts advised citizens to maintain a balanced diet by consuming vegetables, salads, and sufficient water alongside meat. They warned that eating large quantities of meat in a short period can place significant strain on the digestive system.

Doctors have urged the public to avoid overeating and to adopt healthier eating habits during the Eid holidays to prevent stomach-related illnesses.
