Pakistan Government Collects Record Rs2.7 Trillion in Petroleum Levy Over Two Years

Islamabad: The federal government has collected more than Rs2.7 trillion in petroleum levy from citizens over the past two years, according to official documents.
The documents reveal that from April 2024 to March 2026, the government collected approximately Rs2.725 trillion under the petroleum levy head. The amount is reportedly higher than the combined value of Pakistan’s two ongoing loan programs with the International Monetary Fund.
Based on the current exchange rate, the total value of the two IMF loan programs is estimated at around Rs2.34 trillion in Pakistani currency.
According to the records, more than Rs1.205 trillion in petroleum levy was collected during the first nine months of the current fiscal year, from July 2025 to March 2026.
During the previous fiscal year 2024–25, the federal government collected Rs1.220 trillion in petroleum levy, while an additional Rs299.63 billion was collected during the April–June quarter of 2024.
The petroleum levy has remained a major source of revenue generation for the government amid ongoing economic reforms and commitments linked to international financial agreements.
