ATC Orders Seizure of Bail Bonds of 12 Convicted Absconders in GHQ Attack Case

ISLAMABAD: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Rawalpindi has ordered the seizure of surety bonds and bail bonds of 12 convicted absconders in the GHQ Gate attack case.

The court also rejected responses submitted by the sureties to previously issued show-cause notices, declaring them unsatisfactory.

Judge Amjad Ali Shah of the Anti-Terrorism Court ordered the confiscation of bail bonds and imposed a fine of Rs. 100,000 on each surety. The court warned that failure to pay the fines would result in six months of imprisonment for each guarantor.

The court further directed that proceedings be initiated against absconding convicts in other May 9-related cases being heard in Rawalpindi ATC.

Among the convicted individuals named in the case are Omar Ayub, Zartaj Gul, Kanwal Shauzab, Ashraf Sohna, Bilal Ejaz, Rashid Shafiq, Ahmed Chatha, and Rai Hassan Nawaz, among others.

The court had earlier sentenced 47 absconding accused to 10 years imprisonment each in the GHQ attack case announced on May 5. According to officials, 12 of the convicts had obtained interim bail from the court before being declared absconders.
