Wahab Riaz Sends Strong Message to Women’s Team, Urges Fearless and Aggressive Cricket

Islamabad – Pakistan women’s cricket team mentor Wahab Riaz has delivered a clear message to the squad, emphasizing the need for fearless and aggressive cricket in order to achieve success in major international tournaments.
While speaking to the media in Lahore, Wahab Riaz said the team must move away from a defensive mindset and instead adopt a positive, attacking approach on the field. He stressed that modern cricket demands intent and courage rather than cautious play.
Commenting on the recent series against Zimbabwe, he noted that the team showed promising performances and played with growing confidence. According to him, players should focus on delivering good performances rather than chasing records, as milestones naturally follow strong displays.
Wahab Riaz added that the women’s team is still in a development phase, and preparations are being made accordingly. He highlighted that success in global tournaments like the World Cup requires collective performance, stating that at least three to four players must consistently deliver match-winning contributions.
He further said that the Pakistan women’s squad possesses significant talent and potential, calling the entire team a “key asset.” He also mentioned that while matches against India always carry pressure, the team’s strategy will remain focused on maintaining an aggressive mindset against every opponent.
The former fast bowler also pointed out that the team has been working hard on reducing dot balls and improving strike rotation, which he believes is essential for success in modern limited-overs cricket.
Regarding player Sidra Amin, Wahab Riaz said her omission from selection is a matter best addressed by the selectors, but he acknowledged her talent and past strong performances, especially in One Day Internationals.
