Xi Jinping Warns World Risks Returning to ‘Law of the Jungle’ Amid Global Tensions

BEIJING: Chinese President Xi Jinping warned that the world is at risk of returning to the “law of the jungle” as he held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Beijing.
During the meeting, President Putin described relations between Russia and China as being at an “unprecedented level,” saying both countries should continue supporting each other’s development and recovery.
Putin said economic ties between Russia and China are progressing positively and noted that Russia remains a reliable energy supplier amid the ongoing crisis in the Middle East. He added that cooperation between Moscow and Beijing is contributing to global stability.
The Russian president further stressed that both countries should promote the construction of a fair and balanced global governance system.
Speaking on the occasion, Xi Jinping said the success of China-Russia relations is based on political mutual trust and strategic cooperation. He warned that the international community faces the danger of drifting back toward a world governed by power politics and the “law of the jungle.”
Commenting on the situation in the Middle East, Xi said negotiations are of critical importance and emphasized the need to stop the fighting. He noted that ending the conflict would help stabilize global energy supplies and reduce disruptions in international trade systems.
The Chinese president also warned that further escalation in the Middle East would be unwise and harmful to global stability.
During the meeting, President Putin invited Xi Jinping to visit Russia next year.
