Unannounced Load-Shedding Worsens in Quetta as Heatwave Intensifies Public Hardship

QUETTA – Rising temperatures in Quetta and surrounding areas of Balochistan have significantly worsened the impact of unannounced electricity load-shedding, causing severe difficulties for residents.
According to local reports, prolonged power outages by the Quetta Electric Supply Company (QESCO) continue in several densely populated areas, including Jinnah Road, Railway Housing Society, and Sariab Road, where daily load-shedding has increased to 9–10 hours.
Residents said electricity is being cut without any prior notice, severely affecting daily routines and household life. They reported scheduled and unscheduled outages in the early morning, afternoon, and late night hours, leaving citizens struggling to cope with extreme heat.
Morning outages reportedly last from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m., followed by additional cuts from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., while evening blackouts between 9 p.m. and midnight have further aggravated the situation. Citizens said the lack of electricity has also disrupted water supply systems, as electric pumps remain non-functional during outages.
Residents of affected areas said children, students preparing for exams, elderly individuals, and patients are among the worst affected due to the absence of cooling systems and basic utilities during peak summer conditions.
They also complained that despite rising electricity bills, the quality and reliability of power supply have continued to decline. Small businesses, shops, workshops, and commercial centers have also been impacted, raising concerns about economic slowdown.
Citizens urged authorities, including the Chief Minister of Balochistan and senior QESCO officials, to immediately end unannounced load-shedding and implement a transparent electricity supply schedule.
They warned that if the situation continues, public protests could expand across the city as frustration among residents continues to grow.
