Mariam Nafees Says Married Sons Should Live Separately After Marriage

ISLAMABAD: Pakistani actress Mariam Nafees has said that, according to her understanding of religious and family principles, sons should be allowed to live separately after marriage in order to maintain privacy and healthy family boundaries.
Speaking during a recent appearance on a private television morning show, the actress discussed the behavior of mothers-in-law and family dynamics after marriage.
She said that when children get married, it is better for them to live independently, as every family needs personal space and privacy.
“I have already decided that when my son grows up and gets married, we will not impose ourselves on him. We will not put any burden on him, and it will not be his wife’s responsibility to take care of us,” she said.
Mariam Nafees added that if parents do not have the means to provide a separate home, or if the son is unable to do so, then the in-laws should still ensure that the newly married couple has adequate personal space in terms of rooms and kitchen arrangements.
She emphasized that many household issues arise when mothers-in-law assume that their way is always correct and do not allow new daughters-in-law to make changes, noting that new perspectives can sometimes improve the household environment.
