Lakhpass Fire Incident: Safety Lapses and Poor Monitoring Leave 50 Injured; Senior Officials Among the Wounded

Quetta (Daily Qudrat Quetta) — A massive fire at a customs warehouse in Lakhpass area of Mastung has been brought under control after a prolonged firefighting operation. However, the incident left around 50 people injured, according to officials.
The fire reportedly erupted due to the presence of LPG, fuel, and other chemical materials inside the warehouse, which caused the blaze to intensify rapidly. Several loud explosions were also heard during the incident, further complicating the rescue operation.
According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), around 30 rescuers, 13 ambulances, and multiple fire trucks participated in the operation, along with personnel from the Frontier Corps and district administration.
During the rescue efforts, an LPG bowser explosion caused minor injuries to several senior officials, including the Director General of Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), the Deputy Commissioner of Mastung, a wing commander of the Frontier Corps, and the Assistant Commissioner of Saryab.
Hospital sources confirmed that a total of 50 injured individuals were shifted to Civil Hospital, BMC Hospital, and Sheikh Zayed Hospital in Quetta. Several patients in the burn units remain in critical condition, while the rest are stated to be out of danger.
Following the incident, the Quetta–Karachi National Highway was temporarily closed for safety reasons but has now been reopened for all types of traffic after the fire was extinguished, bringing relief to commuters and transporters.
Authorities have launched a formal investigation to determine the causes of the fire, including possible negligence or technical faults. Cooling operations are still underway at the site, and security has been tightened around the area.
