Tribal Leader Amaanullah Kanrani Raises Concerns Over Alleged Killing by CTD Punjab, Government Silence Deepens Public Anxiety

Quetta: Former President of the Supreme Court Bar Association Senator (retd) Amanullah Kanrani has strongly condemned the alleged killing of three tribal leaders from Dera Bugti, reportedly carried out by Punjab’s Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), and criticized the government’s silence over the incident.
In a detailed statement, Kanrani said that three brothers belonging to the family of late tribal elder Wadera Khan Muhammad Kalpar Bugti were allegedly called to Rahim Yar Khan and killed under what he described as deceptive circumstances.
He said the slain individuals came from a respected tribal family known for its historical role in the development and protection of the Sui gas field and for its longstanding support to the state.
According to him, Wadera Khan Muhammad Kalpar Bugti’s family had played a significant role alongside Nawab Akbar Bugti in safeguarding national installations and contributing to the Sui gas project, which he described as a symbol of Pakistan’s energy security.
Kanrani termed the incident “deeply tragic and unacceptable,” saying it had caused serious unrest among tribal communities in Sui and Dera Bugti. He claimed the killing was not only an attack on individuals but had created wider concerns among local populations.
He further alleged that the incident reflects a growing disconnect between the state and local communities and could deepen mistrust if not properly investigated.
The former bar association president called on Asim Munir, the federal government, and the interior minister Mohsin Naqvi to take immediate notice of the situation.
He urged impartial institutions to conduct an independent inquiry into the incident to ensure justice for the affected families and to address growing concerns in the region.
Kanrani warned that continued silence or inaction could further increase anxiety among tribal communities in the gas-producing regions of Balochistan, calling for transparency and legal accountability to restore public confidence.
