Fire Breaks Out at Customs Warehouse in Lak Pass, 31 Injured; Questions Raised Over Possible Negligence or Corruption

Quetta: A major fire broke out at a customs warehouse in the Lak Pass area of district Mastung, leaving at least 31 people injured and raising serious questions about safety arrangements and possible negligence.
According to officials, the fire erupted in a compound used for storing confiscated goods, quickly engulfing the entire facility due to the presence of gas and spirit containers. The incident reportedly escalated after a gas bowser inside the compound exploded.
Authorities confirmed that out of the 31 injured individuals, four are in critical condition and have been shifted for advanced medical treatment.
Chief Fire Officer of the Metropolitan Corporation Abdul Haq Achakzai said the fire was highly dangerous due to the presence of fuel-laden bowsers and volatile materials inside the warehouse.
He added that fire brigade teams, along with security forces, managed to evacuate people from the area to prevent further casualties. However, one gas bowser exploded during the incident, causing multiple injuries.
Around 10 fire tenders were deployed to control the blaze, but firefighters faced significant challenges due to strong winds, limited access, and the presence of multiple fuel containers.
Local administration has suspended traffic on the national highway in the area as a precautionary measure.
Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the fire, while the incident has triggered concerns and speculation regarding possible negligence or irregularities in customs operations and storage of confiscated goods.
