Molana Tariq Jamil’s Son Issues Clarification Over Viral Handshake Controversy

Lahore: A viral video of renowned Islamic scholar Tariq Jamil has sparked debate on social media after it appeared to show him walking past a child without shaking hands.
Following criticism online, his son Yusuf Jamil issued a detailed clarification, explaining the context of the incident and defending his father against allegations of discourtesy.
In his video statement, Yusuf Jamil acknowledged that, from an ethical standpoint, greeting the child with a handshake would have been appropriate. He said there was no serious issue if the handshake had taken place, and emphasized that Molana Tariq Jamil has spent his entire life meeting people with love and respect.
He noted that the scholar has met millions of people throughout his life and has always maintained a warm and affectionate relationship with individuals from all walks of life.
According to him, the incident was not intentional but rather an unintentional human lapse due to fatigue.

Yusuf Jamil further stated that the viral video was recorded during a Ramadan night event at a religious seminary where his father was attending a Qur’an completion gathering.
He clarified that the child seen in the video is not a stranger but a student of their own seminary who frequently meets Molana Tariq Jamil.
He added that due to fasting, continuous worship, and physical exhaustion, the scholar was extremely tired that night and was also scheduled to deliver a sermon shortly after.
“In such a state of physical and mental fatigue, if someone is unintentionally overlooked, it should be understood within human limitations,” he said.
He urged the public to consider the scholar’s age, lifelong service, and overall personality before drawing conclusions, adding that while criticism is acceptable, the complete context should also be taken into account.
The clarification comes after the clip sparked widespread discussion on social media, with users divided over the incident.
