Flour Prices Rise Sharply Across Pakistan Despite New Wheat Harvest

Islamabad: Despite the arrival of the new wheat crop, flour prices have increased significantly across the country, with mills issuing a revised price list and new supply rates coming into effect.
According to flour mills’ sources, retailers are now being supplied flour at updated rates, leading to noticeable price hikes in both 10kg and 20kg bags.
The price of a 10kg flour bag has increased by Rs115, reaching Rs1,020, while the 20kg bag has risen by Rs200 and is now being sold at over Rs2,000.
The Flour Mills Association says the main reason behind the increase is the rising cost of wheat in the market. Sources indicate that wheat prices have surged from Rs3,000 per maund to Rs3,600 per maund, significantly raising production costs.
Previously, when wheat was priced at Rs3,000 per maund, a 10kg flour bag was sold at Rs905 and a 20kg bag at Rs1,810. With the new rates implemented, prices have been immediately revised in the market.
Experts warn that the increase in flour prices could further fuel inflation, as flour is a basic household staple affecting all segments of society.
Consumers and citizens have urged the government to take immediate steps to control wheat and flour prices in order to reduce the burden of rising inflation on the public.
