Lahore Introduces New Security System for Online Taxi Services

Lahore: A new security system has been introduced for online taxi services in Lahore aimed at providing safer and more reliable travel facilities for citizens and effectively preventing the entry of criminal elements into the sector.
The initiative is being seen as a significant step toward urban safety, expected to boost passenger confidence as well as improve the reputation of ride-hailing companies.
According to DIG Operations Faisal Kamran, individuals with any criminal record will no longer be allowed to work as online taxi drivers under the new system.
He stated that obtaining a police character certificate has been made mandatory for all drivers to ensure complete and transparent verification. This requirement applies not only to new drivers but also to those already working in the system.
In addition, a formal agreement has been reached between Lahore Police and major ride-hailing companies to integrate driver data with law enforcement authorities. Through this data-sharing mechanism, suspicious individuals can be identified quickly and timely action can be taken in case of any illegal activity.
Officials further confirmed that full police verification will be required before hiring new drivers, while the records of existing drivers are also being rechecked.
Authorities believe that the implementation of this comprehensive system will enhance passenger safety and significantly improve the overall standards of online taxi services in the city.
