Protests Erupt in Balochistan Assembly Over Alleged Transfer of Sheikh Zayed Hospital Equipment; Secretary Health Summoned

QUETTA (Web Desk) – Strong protests were witnessed in the Balochistan Assembly over alleged attempts to shift medical equipment from Sheikh Zayed Hospital, with both government and opposition members raising serious concerns over healthcare governance.
During the assembly session, Provincial Minister Ali Madad Jatak raised a point of order, stating that on Sunday, officials from the Health Department were allegedly attempting to remove machinery and beds from hospitals in the Saryab area of Quetta. He demanded the formation of a committee to investigate the matter, questioning where the hospital equipment was being taken.
Opposition member Mir Rahmat Saleh Baloch strongly opposed the alleged transfer, stating that the angiography machine from Sheikh Zayed Hospital in Saryab would not be allowed to be moved. He warned against any such action and called it unacceptable.
Lawmakers expressed concern over what they termed as negligence in the health sector and demanded transparency in the handling of hospital assets.
Following the heated exchange, the Speaker of the Assembly directed the Secretary of Health to appear before him in his chamber. However, it was later informed that the Secretary was not present in Quetta at the time. The Speaker subsequently summoned the Secretary to appear on Monday.
The session highlighted growing tensions between the government and opposition over healthcare management and the alleged relocation of critical medical equipment from public hospitals in Balochistan.
