Maryam Nawaz Rejects Political Interference in Hiring, Calls It a ‘Sin’

Lahore: Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif has strongly emphasized merit-based recruitment in government institutions, stating that political interference in hiring is unacceptable and “a sin.”
Addressing the “Suthra Punjab” team in Lahore, she said that no government recruitment in Punjab will now be based on political influence or recommendations from the chief minister’s office. She added that appointments made on favoritism create unnecessary burden on the system and undermine efficiency.
Maryam Nawaz stressed that she considers it both an administrative failure and a moral wrongdoing to deprive deserving candidates of their rights. “No recommendation will work in our government,” she said, adding that such practices will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
She further warned public officials and members of the cleanliness initiative “Suthra Punjab” to reject political pressure and continue their work independently. “If someone cannot withstand pressure, they should leave this job and do something else, but system manipulation will not be allowed,” she remarked.
Highlighting her personal commitment, she said she does not take a salary but faces significant pressure in office. “I sleep only four to six hours a day, but you will never see me sleeping or dozing in meetings,” she added.
The chief minister said she is personally monitoring cleanliness and performance across all districts and made it clear that only those officials who deliver results will retain their positions. She emphasized that performance will be rewarded with better postings, while negligence will lead to consequences.
Maryam Nawaz concluded that the “Suthra Punjab” initiative is very close to her heart and must remain free from corruption, inefficiency, and political interference.
