Responsible Journalism Key to True Press Freedom: Balochistan CM on World Press Freedom Day

Quetta:Balochistan Chief Minister **Mir Sarfaraz Bugti**, in his message on World Press Freedom Day, emphasized that responsible journalism is the fundamental requirement for genuine press freedom.
He acknowledged that journalists in Balochistan are performing their duties under challenging and difficult conditions. He also announced that the province’s first social media policy is being introduced to counter negative propaganda on digital platforms.
The chief minister said that constructive criticism is an effective tool for governmental reform and is always welcomed. He urged national media to go beyond crime reporting and highlight social issues as well as the positive aspects of Balochistan.
Bugti further stated that the closure of bureau offices and layoffs by media houses violate agreements with the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA). He stressed that in the digital age, verifying information is a key ethical responsibility of journalists.

Paying tribute to journalists who have sacrificed their lives in pursuit of truth, he said they are a source of pride for the state and their sacrifices will not go in vain. He also called on private TV channels to reactivate their bureau offices in Balochistan, assuring that the government will provide full security.
He concluded by stating that press freedom and fact-based reporting are essential for the stability and progress of Pakistan.
