Judicial Commission Approves Transfer of High Court Judges Despite CJP’s Opposition

ISLAMABAD: The Judicial Commission of Pakistan has approved the transfer of several high court judges based on a majority decision during a key meeting chaired by Justice Yahya Afridi.
According to sources, Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani has been transferred from the Islamabad High Court to the Lahore High Court, while Justice Saman Rafat Imtiaz has been moved to the Sindh High Court.
In a separate session concerning the Peshawar High Court, Justice Babar Sattar was also approved for transfer to the Peshawar High Court.
Meanwhile, the commission withdrew recommendations for the transfers of Justice Arbab Tahir and Justice Khadim Soomro, putting their cases on hold for the time being.
Prior to the meeting, Justice Babar Sattar had written a letter to the Chief Justice, citing Article 200 of the Constitution and requesting that he be personally heard before any decision regarding his transfer was made.
Sources further claimed that Chief Justice Yahya Afridi had initially opposed convening the meeting for judicial transfers. However, the session was called after a requisition submitted by five members of the commission, reportedly led by Justice Sarfraz Dogar.
The commission deliberated on the transfer of five judges and issued decisions based on majority opinion.
