Karachi-Based Startup ‘Cursor’ Signs $60 Billion Deal with SpaceX

KARACHI: In a major achievement for Pakistan’s tech sector, a startup founded by 26-year-old entrepreneur Saleh Asif has reportedly entered into a $60 billion agreement with SpaceX, owned by Elon Musk.
According to reports, the Karachi-based startup “Cursor,” developed under the parent company Anysphere, uses artificial intelligence to automate computer coding, attracting a large global developer base. Thousands of IT companies worldwide—including Adobe, NVIDIA, and Shopify—are said to benefit from its tools.
Under the reported agreement, SpaceX is expected to acquire Cursor in a deal valued at $60 billion. Sources indicate that if the payment is not completed by the end of the year, SpaceX would instead invest $10 billion and collaborate with the company.
The startup’s valuation has reportedly surpassed $29 billion, marking it as one of the fastest-growing AI-driven platforms in the coding space. Saleh Asif, who hails from Karachi, pursued his early education locally before continuing his studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He later co-founded Anysphere with three partners, focusing on AI-powered code editing solutions.
The development has also placed Saleh Asif among the notable global tech entrepreneurs, with reports suggesting his inclusion in billionaire rankings by Forbes.
The reported deal highlights the growing global recognition of Pakistani talent in advanced technology and artificial intelligence sectors.
