Massive Theft Scandal Uncovered at Pakistan Steel Mills, FIA Launches Probe

A major organized theft scandal involving billions of rupees has been uncovered at Pakistan Steel Mills in Karachi, prompting an investigation by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).

The inquiry was initiated following a complaint from the Ministry of Industries and Production. Preliminary findings have revealed significant evidence suggesting that valuable machinery, cables, scrap material, and other critical infrastructure were repeatedly removed from the facility without official gate passes.

Investigators believe the theft occurred over an extended period, pointing to negligence or possible collusion involving security personnel and DSF staff. The recovery of a 22-wheeler trailer carrying 36 tons of government-owned material further exposed the scale of the operation.

According to initial evidence, the activities were carried out by an organized network allegedly involving internal employees, security staff, and scrap dealers working in coordination.

Reports also suggest that although a First Information Report (FIR) was registered, it was quickly downgraded to a “C Class” case, raising concerns about possible attempts to suppress the matter. The FIA has included this aspect in its investigation and is tightening its grip on those involved, with key suspects and facilitators reportedly identified.

The case highlights serious lapses in oversight and accountability at one of Pakistan’s largest industrial entities.
