First Female Police Martyr of Balochistan: Mother Who Wore Uniform for Her Orphaned Children

Quetta: The tragic martyrdom of Lady Constable Malak Naz Baloch during duty has been described by officials as a historic moment, as she has become the first female police officer in the history of Balochistan to be martyred in the line of duty.
According to police officials, a total of 1,142 police officers and personnel have lost their lives while performing duties in the province, but Malak Naz is the first female officer to embrace martyrdom during active service.
Incident Details
The incident occurred on April 19 in the Baghabana Khandozai area of Khuzdar. Police said a team was en route to arrest suspects involved in a solar panel theft case when they were ambushed by armed assailants.
According to SHO Baghabana Bahawal Khan, the team included Malak Naz because a female officer is required during raids on residential properties. On the way, the police party was intercepted by armed men positioned both on the road and nearby hills.
The attackers attempted to seize weapons from the police, and when resisted, they opened fire. As a result, Lady Constable Malak Naz and Head Constable Samiullah were killed, while Additional SHO Ibrahim Sheikh and two other officers were injured. The injured were shifted to Khuzdar for treatment.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far. The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) has launched an investigation.
A Family Marked by Sacrifice
Malak Naz, 36, originally from Salehabad area of Khuzdar, had served for 13 years in the Levies force and later the police after departmental merger. She leaves behind three children—a 18-year-old son and two daughters aged 16 and 15.
Her husband, Abdul Ghani, a Levies personnel, was also martyred in 2011 in a firing incident in Chamrok, Khuzdar.
Family members said Malak Naz joined the Levies force in 2013 under the martyrs’ quota after her husband’s death, taking full responsibility for her children’s upbringing and education despite financial hardships.
Her son Samir Baloch said both his parents had been taken from him in the line of duty. “First my father, now my mother. They sacrificed everything for the country,” he said, adding that he would strive to fulfill his mother’s dreams.
Official Response
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, and Chief Minister of Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti expressed grief over the incident and paid tribute to the slain officer.
The Chief Minister said Malak Naz’s sacrifice would be remembered in golden words, adding that her courage, alongside her husband’s earlier martyrdom, represents an extraordinary sacrifice for the nation.
The provincial government has assured full support for the orphaned children under the martyrs’ package, including financial assistance, educational support, and employment opportunities in the future.
