Balochistan Lawmaker Alleges Threats by Speaker, Announces No-Confidence Move and Province-Wide Protests

Quetta: Member of the Balochistan Assembly and leader of the Haq Do Tehreek, Hidayat ur Rehman Baloch, has accused Speaker Abdul Khaliq Achakzai of issuing threats and announced plans to launch a no-confidence motion along with province-wide protests.

Speaking to the media, Hidayat ur Rehman alleged that the speaker threatened him with suspension during a meeting in his chamber, warning that he could be barred for one day, three days, or even a month.

He criticized the speaker’s conduct, claiming that he is running the assembly “like a captain” rather than following parliamentary norms. The lawmaker further alleged that he was not allowed to speak during the session on important issues, including reports related to liquor outlets and the non-availability of textbooks.

According to him, the speaker selectively allows members to speak, favoring lawmakers from his own party while restricting opposition voices. He also said that when he visited the speaker’s chamber along with Provincial Minister Mir Asim Kurd Gello, the alleged threats were repeated.

Hidayat ur Rehman stated that attempts to silence him amount to suppressing the voice of the public, adding that he is not afraid of suspensions. “Even if I am suspended 100 times, it does not matter,” he said, vowing to continue his struggle.

He further announced that protests would be held across Balochistan against the speaker’s behavior and called for a no-confidence motion against him, although he expressed doubts that other political parties would support the move.

The lawmaker also claimed that obstacles are being created for his party both inside and outside the assembly.
