Hearing in Justice Maqbool Baqar Attack Case Adjourned, Banned Outfit Suspects Produced in Court

Karachi: An anti-terrorism court has adjourned the hearing of the attack case involving former Supreme Court justice Maqbool Baqar after hearing arguments from the prosecution.

The hearing was held at the Anti-Terrorism Complex داخل Karachi Central Jail, where prison authorities produced suspects belonging to a banned organization, identified as Masoom alias Billa, Yasir, and Muawiya.

During the proceedings, Justice (retd.) Maqbool Baqar requested certified copies of the complete case record. The state prosecutor informed the court that the copies had been sought through the Prosecutor General’s Office.

The court subsequently adjourned the hearing until May 5. Statements from the former judge and the investigating officer are yet to be recorded.

According to the prosecution, the accused carried out an attack on Justice Baqar’s convoy in June 2013 as he was on his way to the Sindh High Court. The attack claimed the lives of seven people, including security personnel assigned to the judge.

The attacker was also killed in the incident, while Justice Baqar and several others sustained serious injuries.
