PTI Long March: Maryam Nawaz Government Seeks Army and Rangers’ Assistance
Lahore: In view of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) long march and protest planned for September 27, preparations for stringent security measures have begun across Punjab and Islamabad.
According to media reports, the Punjab government has requested the deployment of the Pakistan Army and Rangers at several key locations and cities, while Islamabad Police has sought thousands of additional law-enforcement personnel from other provinces.
The Punjab Home Department has reportedly sent a formal letter to the federal government seeking the deployment of Rangers in Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum and Mianwali to maintain law and order.
The provincial government has also requested the deployment of Pakistan Army troops in sensitive areas of Rawalpindi under Article 245 of the Constitution. The security and law-enforcement personnel have been requested until October 5.
The decision was reportedly approved after being considered at a meeting of the Punjab Cabinet’s Standing Committee on Law and Justice.
Meanwhile, Islamabad Police has requested 18,000 additional law-enforcement personnel from Punjab and Sindh to secure the federal capital, manage possible road blockades and protect the Red Zone during the expected long march.
According to police sources, Islamabad Police has sought 16,000 personnel from Punjab and 2,000 from Sindh, along with the services of three Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs), seven Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) and 18 Superintendents of Police (SPs).
The additional deployment has been requested to strengthen security arrangements and maintain law and order during the anticipated protests.
