Trump Suspends Iran Strikes Hours Before Deadline, Cites Progress Toward Peace Deal

U.S. President Donald Trump announced a temporary halt to military strikes on Iran just an hour and a half before his previously set deadline, despite earlier issuing strong warnings about potential large-scale destruction.
In a statement shared on social media, Trump said he had agreed to suspend bombing operations for two weeks, describing the move as part of a “bilateral ceasefire.” He added that the pause is conditional on Iran agreeing to fully, immediately, and safely reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

The U.S. president revealed that his decision followed discussions with Pakistan’s leadership, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir. He said he agreed to the suspension at their request, calling it a “workable basis” for further negotiations.
Trump also claimed that the United States had already achieved, and even exceeded, its military objectives. He expressed optimism that a final peace agreement in the Middle East may be within reach.
According to the statement, Iran has presented a 10-point proposal, which U.S. officials believe could serve as a viable framework for upcoming negotiations.
