US Ready for New Relationship with Iran if Regional Destabilization Ends, Says JD Vance
WASHINGTON: US Vice President J.D. Vance has said that the United States is prepared to build a new relationship with Iran if its leadership abandons policies that contribute to regional instability and permanently gives up its nuclear program.
Speaking on the sidelines of negotiations with Iran facilitated by Pakistan in Switzerland, Vance emphasized that Washington seeks to bring positive change to the Middle East through diplomacy rather than conflict.
“We want to transform the Middle East through diplomacy,” Vance said, adding that the United States envisions a future marked by peace, stability, and prosperity for all nations in the region.
The US vice president stated that following the end of Iran’s nuclear program, the focus should now shift toward building a more constructive future. He noted that before the Islamabad Dialogue initiative, there had never been high-level direct negotiations between Iran and the United States in such a format.
Vance said US President Donald Trump had instructed his administration to pursue a new beginning with Iran and work toward improving relations with the Iranian people. He described the current diplomatic efforts as an important step toward ending longstanding tensions and opening a path to peace and development.
He reiterated that Washington is willing to reset relations with Tehran if Iran abandons activities that fuel regional instability and commits to a peaceful future.
The vice president also praised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir for their role in facilitating the dialogue process. Vance said that without the Field Marshal’s strategy and leadership, the negotiations might not have taken place.
He described Field Marshal Asim Munir as an outstanding military leader who has also demonstrated strong diplomatic skills, while commending Pakistan’s efforts in bringing the parties together for talks aimed at reducing tensions and promoting regional stability.
