5G Service Still Unavailable on Most US and Korean Smartphones in Pakistan

Despite the launch of 5G services in Pakistan, many users of high-end smartphones remain unable to access this advanced network. A large number of consumers continue to rely on 4G services because 5G cannot be activated on phones from United States and South Korea without approval from the respective manufacturers. In contrast, 5G service is available on smartphones from Chinese companies.

Investigations by Samaa News revealed that the main reason 5G is not working on US and Korean phones in Pakistan is due to missing carrier configuration. These companies have yet to include Pakistan in their “country white-listing.” Chinese smartphones, on the other hand, can access 5G due to technical compatibility.

According to sources from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, certification processes with global companies are ongoing following the 5G launch. Work is underway to ensure technical compatibility between mobile operators and device manufacturers.

Officials confirmed that once Pakistan is added to the white-list, all compatible smartphones—including those from US and Korean manufacturers—will have 5G service enabled. PTA sources said that coordination among telecom operators and global companies is ongoing, and 5G access for US and Korean devices is expected soon.
