Pakistan Allows Export of Rice, Seafood, and Medicines to Iran Under Temporary Trade Facilitation

Islamabad: Pakistan has granted permission to export a range of goods to Iran, including rice, seafood, pharmaceutical products, and other essential commodities, in a move aimed at boosting regional trade.
According to an official statement, the Ministry of Commerce has approved a temporary exemption from financial instruments such as bank guarantees and letters of credit for exports to Iran and Central Asian states. This relaxation applies to trade conducted via land routes through Iran, extending to countries like Azerbaijan and other Central Asian nations.
The list of permitted exports includes rice, seafood, potatoes, meat, onions, maize, fruits, pharmaceutical products, and tents. Authorities stated that while partial exemption from State Bank regulations has been granted, exporters must still ensure that export proceeds are repatriated within the stipulated timeframe.
Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal said the special concession has been introduced for a three-month period, effective from March 24 to June 21, 2026.
He added that facilitating trade through Iran will significantly reduce both costs and transit time for exporters, while also strengthening regional trade connectivity and contributing to Pakistan’s economic stability.
