Mahira Khan Calls for Salaries and Royalties for Pakistani Film Artists

Islamabad: Renowned Pakistani actress Mahira Khan has demanded that artists in the film industry receive regular salaries and royalties, emphasizing the need for financial security and recognition for all performers.

Speaking on Wasif Chaudhry’s show about her latest film Aagay Lage Basti Mein and other industry topics, Mahira highlighted the struggles faced by emerging artists, who often work just to “survive,” while senior actors earn easily and enjoy financial stability.

On the importance of royalties, she said, “Artists around the world receive some form of royalties. I am not asking Pakistan to copy Hollywood, but such a system ensures basic financial protection so artists do not go hungry.” She added that Pakistan’s entertainment industry lacks such a system, leaving many performers without financial security.

Mahira also pointed out that broadcasters and TV channels earn revenue from multiple sources, while artists often struggle for basic necessities. She drew attention to the challenges faced by junior artists, supporting actors, technicians, and crew members, noting that they rarely receive the same benefits as senior stars.

The actress concluded by saying that while she considers herself fortunate as a successful artist, she wishes for all performers in the industry to receive similar recognition and financial support.
