CTD, Intelligence Agencies Foil Major Terror Plot in Karachi; Five Suspects Arrested

KARACHI: A major دہشت گردی منصوبہ has been foiled in Karachi after a joint operation by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and intelligence agencies, officials said on Friday.

Addressing a press conference, DIG CTD Ghulam Azfar Mahesar and SSP Operations Irfan Bahadur revealed that five دہشت گرد belonging to the banned outfit Baloch Republican Guard (BRG) were arrested during the کارروائی. Authorities recovered explosives, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and weapons from their possession.

The arrested suspects were identified as Commander Jhanwar, Ali Jan, Noor Muhammad, Jamak, and Niaz. According to officials, the group was involved in multiple low-intensity blasts targeting railway tracks and train bogies in Sindh.

Investigators said the suspects confessed to carrying out at least six attacks in Shikarpur and Jacobabad over the past few months, including incidents on June 18, 2025, in Jacobabad, July 28, 2025, in Shikarpur, and an हमला on the Jaffar Express on October 7. Additional acts of sabotage in December 2025 and January 2026 were also admitted.

DIG Mahesar stated that the suspects had received training in Lehri, Balochistan, and were supplied with explosives from there. To evade detection, they allegedly transported explosive materials while traveling with their families.

He further claimed that the network had links to a neighboring country, which provided funding and logistical support.

CTD officials said the network was identified using technical intelligence, and teams have now been formed in coordination with federal agencies to arrest facilitators and handlers.

The DIG added that no major دہشت گردی incident occurred in Sindh during 2025, attributing this to the continuous efforts of law enforcement agencies. He also noted that, for now, there is no significant security threat reported ahead of Eid.
