Meta Introduces New Scam Detection Tools for Facebook, WhatsApp, and Messenger

Meta Platforms has announced the rollout of **new scam detection features** across its platforms — app”,”Facebook”,”social media platform”], WhatsApp”], and Messenger — to **alert users when they encounter suspicious activity**.

On Facebook, Meta is **testing a feature to warn users about suspicious friend requests**. Users will receive alerts if a friend request shows signs of unusual activity, such as:

* Having **no mutual friends**,
* Listing a **location in a country different from the user’s real location**,
* Or other behaviors commonly associated with scams.

These alerts allow users to make informed decisions about **accepting or rejecting friend requests**.

On WhatsApp, Meta is introducing a **device-linking warning feature**. The tool will alert users if a linking request seems suspicious, indicating where the request originated and warning users about potential scams. This is aimed at **preventing scammers from linking to a user’s account** and gaining access.

For Messenger, an **Advanced Scam Detection** feature will be introduced in additional countries (names not disclosed). When users start a conversation with a new contact, Meta will **monitor behaviors associated with scams** and provide alerts to protect users from fraudulent activity.

Meta stated that these new tools are part of its ongoing efforts to **enhance user safety and reduce scam-related incidents** across its platforms.
