Local Body Elections to Be Held on Party Basis, Major Setback for PTI

Lahore: Authorities have decided that the upcoming local body elections in Punjab will be conducted on a party basis, dealing a significant blow to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

According to sources in the local government department, PTI will be unable to contest the elections under its party banner due to the absence of an official election symbol. This restriction prevents PTI from formally participating in the local body polls, effectively giving an advantage to Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) in securing a majority.

Sources added that PTI may still field independent candidates to take part in the elections, but the lack of a party symbol is expected to limit their organizational and campaign effectiveness.

The decision has set the stage for PML-N to consolidate its position in Punjab’s local government, while PTI strategizes on alternative ways to maintain political influence at the grassroots level.
