Lawyer Sends Legal Notice Over Imran Khan’s Signature on Documents at Adiala Jail

Rawalpindi: In the matter of Imran Khan signing legal documents at Adiala Jail, the PTI founder’s lawyer, Khalid Yousuf Chaudhry, has sent a legal notice to Jail Superintendent Sajid Baig.
The notice warns the jail administration over delays in obtaining Khan’s signature on a power of attorney required to file an appeal in the Supreme Court. Khalid Yousuf Chaudhry said the actions are obstructing the founder of PTI’s fundamental right to access justice.
He stated that the power of attorney is essential for filing the appeal against the Islamabad High Court’s ruling. The lawyer noted that despite visiting Adiala Jail twice—on March 27 and April 2—he was not allowed to have Khan sign the necessary documents. He accused jail staff of using delaying tactics, which violate the Constitution, laws, and jail rules, and warned that the legal deadline for filing the appeal is approaching.
The notice further alleges serious mismanagement and misuse of authority by the jail superintendent, emphasizing that Khan’s basic right to access justice is being hindered. Khalid Yousuf Chaudhry has also requested the Inspector General of Prisons Punjab to take legal and administrative action and informed the Rawalpindi Police Superintendent about the seriousness of the matter.
The lawyer demanded that the power of attorney be presented to Imran Khan within 24 hours for signature and that the signed documents be immediately handed over to him. He warned that failure to comply could result in legal proceedings, stressing that every citizen has a constitutional right to access the courts, which must not be obstructed.
