Billions Worth of Seized Gold and Silver Not Deposited in State Bank: Pakistan Customs Under Scrutiny

ISLAMABAD: It has been revealed that Pakistan Customs has failed to deposit billions of rupees worth of seized gold and silver in the State Bank of Pakistan, with much of the precious metal reportedly remaining in customs lockers for years.

Sources indicate that the FBR Customs has now instructed all enforcement units, including airport collectorates, to submit complete data on seized gold and silver.

Officials say that due to the prolonged non-deposit of these assets into the State Bank’s reserves, they were not reflected in the national treasury. There are also reports that, due to alleged negligence at customs collectorates, some seized gold and silver may have been tampered with or even stolen from the lockers.
