Death Toll Rises to 14 in M-9 Motorway Crash Near Karachi

KARACHI: The death toll in a horrific traffic accident on the **M-9 Motorway** near Kathore has risen to 14, police and rescue officials confirmed on Saturday.
According to police, the crash occurred near Ansari Bridge when a speeding passenger bus entered the highway from the wrong side and collided head-on with an oncoming oil tanker. The impact also involved several other vehicles, causing severe damage. Initially, 13 people were reported dead and six injured.
Rescue authorities later said that a young child who had been critically injured succumbed to injuries during treatment. The deceased was identified as three-year-old Imran, bringing the total number of fatalities to 14. Five injured victims remain under treatment at hospital.
Police said that 12 of the deceased belonged to the same family. After completing legal formalities, the bodies will be handed over to their heirs.
According to family members, the victims had traveled from Kotri to Karachi’s Shah Latif Town to attend a wedding ceremony. The accident occurred while they were returning from the event.
Police reiterated that the crash was caused by a speeding bus traveling on the wrong side of the road and colliding with the oil tanker. The Inspector General of Motorways has sought a detailed report on the incident.
