80% of Balochistan Budget Spent on Salaries, Reforms Will Continue Despite Pressure, Says CM Mir Sarfraz Bugti

Quetta: Chief Minister of Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti stated on social media platform X that nearly 80% of the province’s annual budget of approximately PKR 1000 billion is spent on non-development expenses.

A large portion of the non-development budget goes toward salaries and pensions for around 250,000 government employees, leaving only PKR 200 billion for the welfare and development of Balochistan’s 13 million residents.

To correct this imbalance, over the past two years, the provincial government has closed multiple outdated and inefficient offices, abolished inactive departments such as Zakat, Religious Affairs, and Civil Defense, and eliminated 8,000 unnecessary government positions. Strict action has also been taken against absent government employees without exception.

The Chief Minister emphasized that although the reform process is not yet complete, pressure, protests, or blackmail will not stop the government from protecting public interests. “I will not compromise on the welfare of the people of Balochistan; the reform process will continue under all circumstances,” he added.
