Public Demands Expanded Ramadan Food Package in Balochistan Ahead of Holy Month

Quetta: With just a month remaining until Ramadan, the people of Balochistan are once again hopeful about the government’s “Ramadan Food Package.” Last year, the provincial government distributed the package to 250,000 deserving and underprivileged families, providing a 48-kilogram ration bag designed to meet the 15-day essential needs of a family of seven.

The initiative, launched under the leadership of Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti, received widespread appreciation across the province. With 17 districts of Balochistan recently identified as the most underdeveloped in the country, public demand is growing for this year’s package to reach even more families.

Community leaders have urged the government to expand the scope of the Ramadan Food Package beyond the previous 250,000 beneficiaries. They have proposed that the distribution be managed directly through the respective district deputy commissioners, removing provincial ministers and MPAs from the process, citing past misuse of the package for political gain.

Amid rising inflation, daily expenses have become increasingly difficult for low-income families, making timely relief during Ramadan more crucial than ever. Citizens are calling on the provincial government to make immediate arrangements to provide essential food support to the poor and needy during the holy month.
