Sindh Chief Minister Approves Rs 6.6 Billion for Railway Projects

Karachi: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has approved the allocation of Rs 6.6 billion for railway development projects in the province, aimed at modernizing rail infrastructure and improving public transport facilities.
The approval was given during a meeting between Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi. Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said that modern railway projects are being launched in collaboration with the federal government for the benefit of the people of Sindh. He noted that nearly 67 percent of the province’s population would benefit from the new railway initiatives, adding that the Sindh government is also considering the purchase of six modern trains.
Federal Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi said that Rs 1 billion has been allocated for world-class renovation and upgrading of Rohri Railway Station. He added that the Ministry of Railways would share complete technical details of the six modern trains with the Sindh government.
Hanif Abbasi described the cooperation between the federal and Sindh governments as a new chapter in the history of Pakistan Railways, stating that Sindh would be provided with an environmentally friendly rail system that would also support economic growth. He assured full technical support and provision of the “right of way” by the federal government.
Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said the main objective of the project is to connect remote areas of Sindh with modern and affordable transport facilities. He added that the railway projects would help reduce traffic pressure on roads and that funding for the rehabilitation of the 858-kilometer-long railway network in Sindh is under consideration. He emphasized that the Pakistan Peoples Party-led government prioritizes the protection of human lives and comfortable travel.
According to the spokesperson for the Sindh Chief Minister, both the Sindh and federal governments have agreed to partner in the railway projects, including the modernization of the 858-kilometer rail network across the province. It was also agreed in principle to allocate Rs 6 billion to make 100 unmanned railway crossings safer.
The spokesperson added that six major routes will be rehabilitated under the plan, including Kotri–Dadu, Dadu–Larkana, Hyderabad–Mirpurkhas, Rohri–Jacobabad, and Hyderabad–Badin, as part of the broader effort to revitalize railway services in Sindh.
